Star Wars: Green

Nov. 16th, 2009 | 08:51 am

Title: Spacesick
Fandom: Star Wars
Characters: Kyp, OC
Prompt: Green
Word Count: 200
Rating: PG
Summary: Not a lot makes him sick.
---

The dampers weren’t working, Kyp thought as he bashed his head against the bulkhead wall with enough force to make blackness swim before his eyes. Before he could right himself, the shuttle banked violently the other way, nearly throwing him completely out of the bunk.

Using the bulkheads and anything else bolted down for balance, he tottered down the corridor and into the cockpit. The shuttle continued slewing, bobbing, and corkscrewing erratically. It was enough to make anyone spacesick. He forced down the feeling of nausea. Outside the viewport, he could see they were threading their way through an enormous debris field.

“This isn’t an X-wing, you know,” he muttered to the pilot as he collapsed into the co-pilot’s chair and belted himself in tightly.

The girl, a little human female, gave him a bright smile. “I know, Master Durron, but the path that’s charted seems to have changed more than a little bit.” She slewed the transport sharply to avoid a large piece of slowly spinning metal, throwing him painfully against the restraints. “Are you okay? You’re looking a little green.”

He nodded shortly and forced away another wave of nausea. “I’m fine, but tell me we’re almost through.”

Star Wars: Orange

Nov. 15th, 2009 | 08:23 pm

Title: Fire
Fandom: Star Wars
Characters: Kyp
Prompt: Orange
Word Count: 200
Rating: PG
Summary: Kyp's Stealth X catches fire.
---

It was impossible. He was a Jedi. He wasn’t supposed to get shot down by some stupid lucky shot. He cursed as the ship’s power systems wavered and died. Banging his fist on the console brought them back to life, but only barely. An eerie orange glow flickered through the smoke that had begun filling the cockpit.

If that wasn’t bad enough, he was on fire too. Kyp pressed the fire-control button on the Stealth X’s console, and flinched away, shielding himself with his hands, as the cockpit erupted into sparks. When he opened his eyes again, the orange glow was brighter and accompanied by the smell of frying electricals. He banged his fist on the console again, and the whole system died with an ominous clunk.

The cockpit became suddenly silent except for the occasional crackle and sizzle of something burning. The orange glow continued to intensify as the temperature in the small space climbed higher. He considered banging on the controls one more time, but reconsidered. It hadn’t done any good so far.

Better get used to the idea of getting a little cold, chum, he thought to himself as he felt for the manual canopy release.

Star Wars: Red

Nov. 15th, 2009 | 07:40 pm

Title: Just a Flesh Wound
Fandom: Star Wars
Characters: Kyp, OC
Prompt: Red
Word Count: 200
Rating: PG-13
Summary: A not-so-minor head wound.
---

The blood trickled out of his hair and ran down his face. He tried to brush it away, but his hand came away smeared with red fluid. There was more than he’d expected, but he wasn’t too concerned. Cilghal had told him once that head wounds, even the not-serious ones, always bled a lot.

Ignoring the throbbing headache, Kyp stumbled on down the path towards civilization. If he didn’t get back, his partner, Phae, would never let him live it down. It was only a scratch after all. His foot caught on a snarled old root, and he went sprawling. The impact intensified the throbbing in his head, and red and black spots swam before his eyes.

Hauling himself to his feet, he concentrated on putting one foot in front of the other. Finally, he reached their shuttle, parked in a loading zone on the outskirts of town, and stumbled up the ramp. She was waiting for him, her concern was palpable through the Force as he hit the door controls.

“Just a scratch,” he mumbled, when the door slid open. Redness overwhelmed him as his eyes rolled back in his head and he dropped limply to the deck.

Star Wars: Years

Nov. 15th, 2009 | 06:50 pm

Title: Homecoming
Fandom: Star Wars
Characters: Kyp, Han
Prompt: Years
Word Count: 200
Rating: G
Summary: A not-so welcome home.
---

Had it really been that long? Staring down at the brown lump of a planet slowly getting larger in the viewport, the forty or so years since he’d last seen Kessel evaporated. It seemed like only yesterday Han Solo and Chewbacca had rescued him from that prison. What moment of insanity had persuaded him to volunteer to come back?

The closer it got, the more unpleasant memories – memories he’d thought he’d buried irretrievably long ago – came back. Blackness. Pain. Stormtroopers. Doole. Spice Spiders. His Parents. His Brother. Daala. The Maw. Exar Kun. The Sun Crusher. Carida. Death. An icy shiver raced down his spine, and the urge to flee, to run away and never come back, threatened to overwhelm him.

He closed his eyes, forcing his mind away from the sight and from Kessel and all the memories, using every meditation technique he knew to think about absolutely nothing. It was one of the hardest exercises in willpower that he’d ever had to practice. At last, his mind went blank, and he sighed.

“You okay, kid?” asked Han, coming onto the bridge and slumping into the pilot’s chair.

Kyp swallowed and nodded, hoping his face didn’t give him away. “Sure.”

Star Wars: Interrogation

Jan. 25th, 2009 | 03:08 pm

Title: Interrogation
Fandom: Star Wars
Characters: Kyp, OC
Prompt: Circle
Word Count: 200
Rating: PG
Summary: Sometimes talking gets you nowhere.
---

“You are the destroyer of worlds?”

Kyp scowled at the woman from inside the circle where his guards had forced him to his knees. He knew what she was talking about, but didn’t understand what it had to do with his sudden imprisonment. He’d been on a peaceful – and legitimate – mission for the Council when they’d grabbed him.

The woman circled him like a predator waiting for its victim to die, and the empty amphitheater echoed when she spoke. “You are the destroyer of Carida?” she demanded again. It sounded like a broken holorecording.

He nodded, impatient. “We’ve been over this only a hundred times,” he blurted. “Yes. I was possessed by a Sith Lord and blew up Carida. Is that what you want to hear?”

The smile froze. “Yes,” she drawled, turning to the empty seats that encompassed them. “You’ve all heard. He has confessed, and the sentence is death. Execute him.”

“What?!” he exploded.

“You question my judgment?”

He gaped. “Shouldn’t I? You’re the one talking to thin air after all.”

“Very well,” she said, pausing in her circling to consider him. “Release him. For now.”

A shiver ran up his spine. That last part didn’t sound good.

Star Wars: Shower

Sep. 27th, 2008 | 02:25 pm

Title: Shower
Fandom: Star Wars
Characters: Kyp
Prompt: Fixed
Word Count: 200
Rating: PG
Summary: Nothing a shower can’t fix.
---

Kyp hissed softly and cursed as the scalding water swirled into the deep gash which had nearly laid open the back of his arm from shoulder to elbow. The hot water of the fresher ran over him, turning a watery bright pink before it disappeared down the drain. He stretched carefully, yawning as he did and listening to the cracks and pops of his complaining joints.

He took his time standing under the extra hot water – it had been a long time since he’d seen a comfortable, non-military fresher – before finally shutting off the water and patting himself down with a thick towel. Wrapping the towel around his waist, he examined the wound. The water still on his skin mixed with the blood and made it look much worse than it actually was.

Biting his lip, he counted to three and laid the long bacta bandage carefully over it. The bacta began working immediately, and he swore again as the stinging sensation peaked and died slowly away, the natural anesthetic taking over. As he watched, the bacta turned a slightly darker pink as it mixed with the still leaking blood.

No, he decided, there was nothing a shower couldn’t fix.

Star Wars: The Dozen

Sep. 27th, 2008 | 02:23 pm

Title: The Dozen
Fandom: Star Wars
Characters: Kyp, Miko
Prompt: Months
Word Count: 200
Rating: G
Summary: Formation of the Dozen.
---

From the seat of his X-wing, Kyp watched the motley assortment of fighter craft lift off from the landing pad and felt a flush of pride as they disappeared into the clouds. He’d finally done it.

It had taken him months to gather the small group of twelve pilots. They’d come from all parts of the galaxy and all walks of life. Adenda Rix was a former bounty hunter from Tatooine. Jax Cavan was the second son of a rich Kuati noble. Nalto Dodd had been a member of the Coruscant Security Force before he’d been let go for killing a woman in a drunk driving accident. He and Miko were the only Jedi, but everyone had the same goal – catch the bad guys other groups wouldn’t touch.

“See you up there,” said Miko over the comm as his shiny new X-wing lifted off. Yes, Kyp thought, he was proud of them and of himself. It was high time the Jedi became pro-active again.

Master Skywalker would have been very disappointed in his un-Jedi-like stand against slavers, smugglers, and the like, but he didn’t care. Skywalker couldn’t do a thing about it. They were his. The Dozen and Two Avengers.
